Alan Wake

6 06 2009

This is the last video interview I have! Sam Lake is a writer for Alan Wake and even introduced the game on stage at the Xbox briefing. Even watching the demo was intense. They’re doing an amazing job with it.

After this I’m off for the next week to visit friends and family in the US and recover from E3. I’ll still try to find some time to blog, but in the meantime enjoy all the videos and news! There’s plenty of it.

Forza 3

6 06 2009

I got a chance to interview John Wendl from Turn 10 about Forza on Tuesday, but we were so flat out with editing all the videos that I just got it finished last night! John is a serious car nerd. Look how excited he gets about tire physics!

Peter Molyneux!

5 06 2009

Yeah! I let my inner fangirl off the leash. Just a little bit. Not enough to be scary, just enough to ask for a photo with him in my reasonable voice. Success!

Project Natal Interview

5 06 2009

Throughout the show I’ve had a few chances to hang out with Alex Kipman, who works on Project Natal, and Mariana convinced him we should do an interview, which is spot on. So we did.

Shadow Complex

5 06 2009

Shadow Complex is an upcoming game for Xbox LIVE Arcade, and looks pretty sweet. I cornered Cliff Bleszinski and threatened him, then offered him cookies to tell me all about it.

Just did an Allen Wake interview and trying to do a couple more quick ones before the show ends.

Miyamoto

5 06 2009

Miyamoto is in the Xbox booth right now getting a demo of Project Natal. Most of us nerds just about fell over in awe. As one guy put it, “Beckham, Michele Trachtenberg, whatever. But Miyamoto? OH MY GOD.”

Halo 3: ODST Interview

5 06 2009

I got a chance to interview Lars Bakken, the lead designer for ODST, about Halo 3: ODST. I totally managed to keep my fangirlism from taking over! I didn’t ask him if he was married or had a girlfriend once. I did, however, ask him about Firefight, the single player campaign, story, and gameplay of Halo 3: ODST. That’s way more exciting anyway, right?

The Beatles Rock Band

4 06 2009

I just got out of a presentation of The Beatles Rock Band.  I was skeptical a little bit–I figured it would be regular Rock Band with Beatles songs. Turns out it’s way better than that. They’ve created rad guitar peripherals just like the ones each member of the band used.  In 1966 the Beatles transitioned from beng a touring band to mostly a studio band (according to them, I’m not music nerdy enough to know). To accomodate for this, those songs aren’t played in venues as one would normally see in a Rock Band game. Instead they begin in the studio with the band playing the song before transitioning to a visual interpretation of the song itself.

Additionally, you can tell those guys are all serious musicians and love music. They played a few of the songs and nailed every one. They sounded great, and not just by karaoke standards.

I took video!

Project Natal – Let’s meet Milo

3 06 2009

World meet Milo, Milo meet the world!

Bar none, for me this was the highlight of the Microsoft presentation yesterday.  The ability for “Milo” to recognise your face, voice and emotions … it boggles the mind all the applications this has, even beyond gaming. Let me throw one out there … a companion for isolated elderly people.  Would be great to hear your thoughts on the potential of this.

Note to Self: Batteries and Lots of Them

3 06 2009

I took a few quick clips of the show floor today–there’s a great view of the floor from the second level of the Xbox booth where you can see just how packed it all is. Uh, I’ll post them this evening because the batteries in my Zi6 camera have died and, in what I believe to be a very poor design decision, plugging it in via USB to retrieve the videos isn’t enough power to coax it to turn on and spit them out.  I’ll pick up a ton so this doesn’t happen again.

In the meantime, I’m editing/rendering some announcement commentary from myself and from David McLean. Tomorrow I’m going to start grilling game staff on the floor about their games, on camera, for our combined enlightenment.

Comment or send twitters to @xboxaustralia if you have a specific question about one of our first party titles or exclusives and I’ll see if I can get them answered!
