Tonight the new Xbox LIVE update is coming out, with changes to the user interface, improved voice chat, tweaks to avatars and the avatar editor, and other fun stuff. One of the other “fun stuff” items is an update to the ZUNE Video Marketplace.
Starting from tonight, you will be able to purchase movies through the ZUNE Video Marketplace in addition to renting On Demand titles. This means there are HEAPS of new titles coming. I counted 491 that will be available for purchase from the time of the update. It also means we’ll have some titles available on ZUNE Video Marketplace earlier, since we don’t have to wait for them to enter the On Demand window–once they are available for digital distribution we can make them available for purchase.
Another bonus? It’s available on all 3 of your screens. Once you’ve purchased the title on Xbox LIVE you can also choose to watch it on your PC via the ZUNE software, or even transfer it (from your PC) to your Windows Phone 7 and watch it on the go. You’ve bought it, you should be able to watch it, right? and now you can.
I’ll try to get my hands on a complete list of the titles coming tonight for those interested.

Any word as to whether the biggest roadblock to Zune Marketplace use has been addressed? Namely: The horrendous loading time.
Yeah sometimes the speed of the marketplace is rubbish. I’m on a 24Mb connection and sometimes its says I can get HD then other times its only lets me use SD. I check my speed from my router to check and its fine. Hopefully its fixed it this update.

Looks like the library update has already dropped – a lot of new content in the marketplace and a lot of it for purchase.
SD only though? I’d rather rent the HD.
It sounds like I am grumbling, but I’m not. Love the Zune service (when are we getting the music marketplace??, hint, hint) and can’t wait to get a WP7.
While I’m rambling, will the Foxtel on 360 service support WP7 (i.e. can I transfer content to portable Zune devices)? I’m guessing not, but would love to see it.
I love the development in XBOX and ZUNE here in Aus at the moment. It has become a serious multimedia hub and love every part of it. Movies, games, and soon Foxtel. Thumbs up from me, Microsoft.

I Had The Beta Dashbord And As Far As I Could Tell They Have Tried To Fix Most Of The Problems With The Marketplace While Keeping It User Friendly
PLEASE bring Zune Music/Zune Pass to Australia. Or at least tell us it is in the works…
I want to give you my money, and I’m eagerly waiting for the opportunity to do so. If Zune is marketed properly, it could be a very compelling alternative to iTunes.
Not in a million years is this going to get close to itunes, I would love to buy my Tv and movies threw zune but its so limited in its content offerings. Now that being said the US video marketplace is very close the itunes.
I’ve used Zune Pass for music and it’s streets ahead of itunes. For a music lover it’s a no brainer.
Sadly, I agree with you about the Video marketplace. It’s nowhere near as good as the US marketplace, nor even itunes video marketplace in Aus.
It looks like MS has essentially thrown in the towel too. The VoD service from Foxtel on Xbox 360 already looks to have a larger library than Zune video in aus, and supposedly the plan is to expand it by 5000 titles by the end of 2011.
I’d LOVE to use Zune (as I plan to get a WP7 as soon as my contract runs out) for music, TV, and movies, but sadly it just doesn’t look like it’s going to happen.
